Safer Internet Day 2019

Safer Internet Day (SID) is organised in February each year to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially among children and young people across the world.

2019

In Wilson’s pupils will be addressing the issue of safer internet use with a particular emphasis on cyber bullying. This will be done in a variety of classes by several teachers over the next couple of weeks. There are posters and information sheets in classrooms and through out the school.

There are lots of resources to help parents chat with young people about online safety at www.webwise.ie/parents and www.saferinternetday.ie

The Office for Internet Safety has been established by the Government to take a lead responsibility for internet safety in Ireland, particularly as it relates to children. The Office for Internet Safety aims to build linkages and cohesion between all Departments and agencies to ensure that the State provides the best possible protection for the community and promotes internet safety.

The Office of Internet Safety’s website (www.internetsafety.ie) has a section which focuses on the most popular technologies that children and teenagers use and to provide them with some simple advice on how they can have fun on the internet, stay in control and to give them the heads-up on what they should do if they encounter experiences that make them feel uncomfortable or scared.
