Sports & Extra Curricular Events 10th - 16th January 2022

Wednesday 12th January 2022

The new year got off to a competitive start today with Girls & Boys Hockey and Boys Rugby teams both in action.

Hockey.

The Senior 1 girls hockey team played St Columba's in a tight fought game that ended in a 0-0 draw.  Team Captain, Lucy led a strong and secure back line which left the midfield and forwards to be creative throughout the game. With great chances by Ameera and Naoise, Wilson's were held out by great goal keeping from St Columba's. Team Vice Captain, Holly led the forward line and won a short corner for her team.  A strong performance by Anna at Left Back ensured that any counter attack from St Columba's were stopped at source. Overall a great improvement towards the end of the Wilson's Senior Campaign.

The Second Year Boys’ hockey team had a very successful trip to St. Columba's College in Rathfarnham on Wednesday, 12th January with a 4-1 win. Confidence was high as Will scored in the first minute, the first of a well deserved hat trick, with Joel scoring the other. Liam had to make a number of very good saves to ensure victory, ably assisted by Aaron, Matthew, Giles and Alfonso. Special thanks go to Archie, Joseph, Tom and Rowan who stepped up to the task when needed.

Rugby.

The Juniors and Seniors boys Rugby teams travelled to Blackrock College to take on their “House 3s” at both levels. The Juniors had a memorable victory taking the spoils 24-19. Callum scored a hat trick of tries while Shane added the only try scored in the first half. John added two conversions. The team had to dig deep for this win. Having led 24-0 at one point, they found themselves defending their line late in the game to hold out for a five point win. Leke, Shane and Shay were excellent in the pack while John, Josh and David were the pick of the backs.

A depleted Senior team came up against a very strong Blackrock group. Blackrock laid down their intent early with a couple of tries in the wide channels. To their credit, this young senior team battled hard and will be glad of the experience. Eddie, Ciaran and Matthew B shone brightest in the pack while Stephen, Ross and Jude got through a lot of work in the back.
