Wednesday 9th January.
Hockey. The Minor A, Minor B, Junior and Senior B girls teams were all playing Meath & District League fixtures at home today against Drogheda Grammar School. Unfortunately, it didn't go our way.
The Minor B girls team played against Drogheda in their third match of the season. We started the game strongly and held off multiple attacks on our goal from the opposition. Our back line and goalie, Charlotte, were superb in defence all the way through. A series of unfortunate short corners meant that Drogheda put one past the defence just the before half time.
Wilson's came back strongly in second half and Áine's strike flew past the opposition's keeper. Following an accidental hit to an opponent’s face, Drogheda managed to get a final goal past our defences taking the score to 2-1 to Drogheda. Wilson's played valiantly as a team and are looking forward to next week's clash to hopefully score many more goals!
The Minor A Team played well against Drogheda Grammar School today . They went the whole first half without a goal on either side . The two teams were both very well matched as they pushed back and forth around the pitch, though most of the action was on one side . Our goal keeper kicked back many shots on goal and kept the score even for most of the game until near the end when Drogheda finally got through the defence . All of our second years played very well and it shows that Christmas break hasn’t stopped their constant improvement. The match ended 0 – 1 to Drogheda.
The Junior Team had a hard game. Drogheda had a very strong team and some of them even play Senior games as well. But it didn’t stop our team from putting up a good fight. Wilson’s players managed to push the ball up the pitch on multiple occasions, though sadly, the final score was a defeat.
The Senior B were also in action.
Rugby. Old foes Sligo Grammar travelled to Wilson’s to take on our Junior Boys and First Year Boys rugby teams.
The First Year Boys were competitive until half time. Sligo led 4 tries to 3. Sam and Joel (2) scored the tries. In the second half Wilson’s seemed to run out of steam. Sligo added 6 tries and Wilson’s failed to register a score. The game finished 10-3.
The Junior Boys game was more competitive than the 42-0 scoreline suggests. Missing several key players, it was always going to be a tough game against a team six months older. Alvaro was superb at full back for Wilson’s. Tom and Mateo were the pick of the rest of the backs. In the forwards Matthew, Nathan, Ross and Max got through a mountain of work.
Thursday 10th January.
Basketball. The Boys team represented the school in an All Ireland Cup semi final today. Unfortunately, they met a stronger oppostion and despite some good play from the Wilson's team, it wasn't our day especially in the last quarter.
