Sports & Extra Curricular Events 22nd - 28th October 2018

Tuesday 23rd October.

Basketball. The Boys Team have a home fixture this morning against Tullamore.

Wednesday 24th October.

Orienteering. Twenty of our students headed off to Malahide Castle Demesne early on Wednesday morning to participate in the Leinster Schools Orienteering Competition. The event was very well attended with up to 48 entrants in some of the age groups. With the weather on their side all were in high spirits and full of enthusiasm.

As a competitive sport orienteering combines running and navigating. Using a highly detailed map the students had to select routes and navigate in order to visit control points in sequence. For the vast majority this was their first experience of orienteering, nonetheless they adapted very quickly to the task in hand. They were competing against the clock so speed, logic, navigation and teamwork were essential.

A big congratulations to all on their performance. We were placed 16th (Sarah & Katelynn) and 17th (Anna & Isabel) in the First Year Girls; 10th (Ignacio & Luis) in the First Year Boys; 11th(Carolina & Alice) and 12th (Elena & Marina) in the Second & Third Year Girls; 4th (Noah & Dominic) and 5th (Pablo & Javier) in the Fifth & Sixth Year Boys. Well done also to Jamie, Aaron, Fiona and Kate on a great race. A special hats off has to go to our Transition Year entrants Craig and Jensen who won the TY Boys race which just shy of 5km was the longest race with 19 controls to establish. The boys had a convincing win finishing 4:03 minutes ahead of their nearest competitors.

For our first orienteering outing this year it was most successful. Everyone enjoyed it immensely and all are looking forward to the second leg of the competition which takes place on the 5th of December. Watch this space! There are more pictures on the school Facebook page.

Hockey. The Senior A Girls Hockey team played Sandford Park in an enthralling game. Both teams started well with Sandford controlling possession in the first ten minutes. Avril and Emma were strong in defence and managed to block all of the shots. For the next 15 minutes Wilson’s took control of the game with slick passing from Ellen, Davina and Jenna. Aramide sprinted from the half way line and found herself one on one with the goalkeeper. She passed the ball into the left corner and scored Wilson’s first goal. Just two minutes later Michealla beat two defenders on the right wing and scored.

The second half brought four more goals. The first two were scored by Sandford Park after a spell of dominance that shocked the Wilson’s team. As substitutions were made, the girls lifted their performance again with Emma passing a ball through the centre to Michealla who easily beat the defender and scored her second goal. Just before the final whistle Wilson’s were given a short corner. Alex came up from the back line and took a strike just inside the circle to score Wilson’s fourth goal and Alex’s first in Wilson’s colours. Well done to all the girls involved.

The Senior B Girls hockey team travelled away to play Our Lady Terenure today. Wilson’s were on the ball as soon as the whistle went, but unfortunately Our Lady Terenure were the stronger team and managed to score 5 goals in the first half. The half time whistle gave the girls a chance to regroup and they were ready to come back fighting. Destiny was on fire in goals and never gave up saving almost every goal that came her way. Vice Captain, Chinwe played a brilliant game and supported the team very well. The Wilson’s defence was also very strong throughout the match. Hard luck to all the girls playing today.

The Junior Girls hadan away fixture against Sutton Park School.

Rugby. The Senior Boys and the Junior Boys teams were both playing Naas CBS today away.

The Senior Rugby team capped off their round robin 2B League campaign in impressive fashion beating Naas CBS 45-14 in Naas Rugby Club.

The platform was set in the first half with tries from newly Conor (2), Alex, David and Harry. Direct running from Evan and Harry in the backs early on caused Naas plenty of problems. Barry and Nathan carried well in the pack. Half time 31-0. In the second half multiple changes seemed to effect the rhythm that Wilson’s had in the first half. Further try’s from Conor and Alex were cancelled out by two late scores from a resurgent Naas team. The final score was 45-14 in favour of Wilson’s.

Congratulations to Nicholas who made his rugby debut in Naas today. The Senior boys have now qualified for a home quarter final of the 2A league. This game is scheduled to take place on Wednesday the 6th of November.

The Junior rugby Team suffered a heavy defeat to the league favourites. After two good wins against Mullingar and St Michael's - this very young Wilson’s team came undone against a very physical and well drilled team.

In the pack, Reuben, Daniel and Matthew worked very hard to slow down the Naas attack. The pick of the backs were Mateo, Tom and Eoghan on what was a tough day at the office for all involved.

Thursday 25th October.

Rugby. The First Year Boys Rugby team welcomed neighbours Mullingar under 13s to Multyfarnham for a game under lights. Kevin and Mark (who play for Mullingar 13s and Wilson’s) wore blue on the night and did an excellent job as Captain and Vice Captain. Kevin also capped off a fine performance with a try against his club.

Mullingar battled well for long periods of the game and were unlucky not to get on the score sheet more often. Wilson’s physicality was the slight difference between the two teams at the end of a very worthwhile game.

In the backs Michael and Jude caused Mullingar lots of problems with their speed and footwork. Rowland’s communication at outhalf was excellent and he constantly kept the back line moving. In the pack Sam was to the fore again with some barnstorming runs scoring two tries. Joel in the end was named Man of the Match. His aggression and work rate was top class again. Try scorers on the night were Sam, Joel, Elliott, Jude, Michael, Kevin and William. Michael also added some fine conversions.

After mid term the First Years turn their attention to Mount Temple Comprehensive. Well done to all the first years for their hard work over their first Term in Wilson’s.
