Sports & Extra Curricular Events 1st - 7th October 2018

Tuesday 2nd October

Rugby. The 1st Year Boys team had an away fixture against Edenderry u13s tonight. Wilson’s eventually came out on top 38-28 in a thrilling game of rugby.

In the first half number 8 Sam proved a handful for the opposition scoring three tries. Michael also added one and converted all four leaving the score 28-0 at half time. There was some particularly good running and tackling in the first half from Jude, Elliot and Charlie.

In the second half Edenderry got back into the game scoring four tries of their own. Wilson’s were not finished scoring and added two more tries through Jamie (playing his first ever game of rugby) and Joel who carried hard for Wilson’s all evening.

In the forwards Ciaran, Kevin, Mark and Charlie had fine games. In the backs William, Quaku, Ignacio and Luis did really well and always looked threatening with the ball in hand.  Well done boys.

Wednesday 3rd October.

Basketball. The Girls team had a fixture in Moate this morning.

Rugby. The Senior Boys got their competitive season off to a positive start this afternoon with a hard fought 14-8 points victory over Templeogue College. Wilson’s made the better start and were rewarded after some early territory with a try by Conor. A decent line out drive gave a good platform for Conor to power over from close range. Sam added the conversion. Templeogue owned the majority of the first half and eventually turned possession into points. A try quickly followed by a penalty left the half time score 8-7 in favour of Templeogue.

Wilson’s added what was to be the key score 10 minutes into the second half. Some strong picking and driving by the forwards eventually allowed David the spaced needed to score. Sam added the conversion and that was to be the last score of the game. Templeogue looked very dangerous- particularly in the Centre. The WHS centre partnership of Thomas and Evan stood firm in defence.

In a game dominated by forward play Alex, Conor, Jack and David had excellent games.  In the backs Sam controlled the game well from scrum half and both Evans looked dangerous with the ball in hand.

Next week the seniors travel to Terenure. Although they have plenty to work on next week it was great to get the league campaign off with a win against a tough team. Well done boys.

Hockey. The Minor A girls had an away match today. As soon as the whistle went Wilson's were in on the ball. In the first few minutes Faith scored a goal which set Wilson's up with confidence for the game. The other forwards, Robyn and Ameera stormed through the Loreto defence to secure two further goals for Wilson's leaving the half time score 3-0.

Loreto Bray came back strongly in the second half but the Wilson's girls continued to impress. A special mention for Aoibhin who was working hard to keep the defence strong and Alice who performed very well in mid-field. The girls should be very proud of how they performed and look forward to the rest of the season.

The Senior B girls were playing Loreto, Beaufort also in an away fixture. Wilson's played very well but Loreto were the stronger team on the day. The Wilson's defenders worked together, stood their ground and were consistent through the match. In particular Louise, Soky, Avril and Siobhan performed excellently in defence. Destiny once again held the team together saving serveral shots. Team Captain, Debbie showed great leadership on and off the pitch. The final score was 3-0 to Loreto.

Thursday 4th October.

DebatingA team from Wilson's Hospital School travelled to the first round of the UCD Junior School's Debating Competition. Form 2 students Caoimhe, Aimee, Andrea and Sarah-Jane and Form 1 students Grace, Charlotte, Susan and Oisín H did a great job representing the school on what was a first occasion debating for many students.

The team of Grace and Charlotte achieved a remarkable second place finish, doing the school proud, considering that many groups had second and third year experienced debaters. We look forward to Wilson's debaters continuing a great performance into the second and third rounds.

New students are welcome to join the debating club, with debating practise on Tuesday (4-5.30pm) and Wednesday (2-3.30pm) with Mr Burke and Ms Sally in A2!
