Monday 19th February

Hockey. The Junior Girls and Minor A Girls teams were playing Loreto, Mullingar today as part of their Meath & District league. The Minor A team played first and got off to a rocky start with Loreto scoring three very quick goals. The girls regrouped and began to play some lovely hockey. Half time gave them a much needed opportunity to gather themselves and they went into the second half much more composed and organised. Unfortunately they were unable to break the Loreto defence but they should be very proud of how they came back in the second half and put in a solid team effort.

The Junior team were determined to steal a victory having watched the previous match and they got off to a flying start. A lovely pattern of passing from right to left saw Jennifer L cross a perfect pass into Emma who was ruthless in the circle and slotted the ball into the back of the net. This was the beginning of a goal scoring feast for Emma who ended the game with 4 goals to her name. The midfield trio of Ayo, Kayla and Jenna were superb in attack and defence with Siobhan and Mary leading the way in the defensive line. The girls played their best game to date and in the dying minutes of the game Kayla scored from a set piece short corner to seal the victory at 5-2. This was a huge boost for the girls ahead of their next home match on Wednesday that should they win they will find themselves in the Leinster Quarter Finals.

Rugby. The U16 Boys team had a match against Longford. Longford were physically bigger than our lads and scored two early tries. Wilson's responded before half time, with prop Oisin burrowing over leaving the half time score 12-5

The second half was very even with both sides adding a further try each. Joseph got the try for WHS leaving the final score17-12 to Longford. Pick of the pack were Jenson, Mark and Reuben. In the backs Sam did well with some scrappy ball, while Thomas and Al Amin always looked a threat out wide. Special mention to Stephen, Matthew, Ben and Eddie who made their debuts for the JCT. Also a special mention to brothers Harry and Matthew who got to line out together for the first time in the blue of Wilson's. A day they won't forget.

Wilson's played with a bit more confidence in the second half and added further tries through Richard, William, Ryan, Alex and Gugliemo (his first for Wilson's) leaving the final score 50-7. Games are coming thick and fast form the Seniors. Next week they are home in the semi final of the league when they take on Dundalk Grammar.

Hockey. The Junior girls had a Leinster match against East Glendalough at home today.

Thursday 22nd February.

Rugby. The Junior Girls had a blitz in Mullingar RFC Against schools from Edenderry and Moate. The first contact match was against a physically stronger Edenderry side however the Wilson's girls got off to a better start with quick hands leading to a try by Gema. Both teams interchanged scores with Ana, Geam and Lucia, chidera and Maria all touching down for Wilson's. Ana and Lucia led by example in defence putting in numerous try saving tackles with Brianna, Aoibhinn and Lucia carrying well when they got the ball.

The girls finished the day playing a tag match mixed with the other schools. Ammera, Sofia and Naoise were the stand out players for Wilson's during this game. It was an excellent experience for the girls and special mention to Ana and Gema for outstanding performances throughout the day.
