Hockey: The Junior girls and Senior girls teams travelled to play St. Wolston's this afternoon. The Junior girls had a fantastic 3-0 win in what was their best performance to date. Emma C was superb at centre forward and scored two goalswith Ellen getting the third. The girls got off to a sluggish start but after half time thay came out like a different team. They should be very proud of themselves today and they have gained a lot of confidence going forward for the rest of their upcoming Leinster league matches. Player of the match was Emma C but Siobhan cannot go unmentioned since she was superb in defence.
The Senior Girls played a very tough match. Both teams gave it their all and one goal a piece was a fair result. The first half started brightly with Wilson's dominating possession and creating several chances. An excellent opportunity was created after twenty minutes and finished well by Emily. The remainder of the half was a constant battle for possession. Georgia made several saves but St. Wolstan's were awarded a short corner and equalised in the dying secondsof the first half.
The second half was dominated by St. Wolstan's and our defence were kept busy. Excellent displays from Ellen and her defensive partners kept St Wolstan's at bay. Neither team created too many clear cut chances but the speed and competititiveness of the game made it our toughest challenge to date. An excellent display from both teams and a guaranteed quarter final place awaits.
Rugby: The Junior Cup Boys Team played Skerries CC in Donnybrook in the quarter final today. On a calm day in Donnybrook conditions were perfect for running rugby. In the end Wilson's ranout 38-17 winners but only twp points seperated the teams at half time. Skerries got the first score of the game. Their hard running propr (the best played oon show) could not be stopped with a pick and go two metres out. Wilson's response was a superb individual try from winger Denians. He picked up the ball on his own 22 and went the length of the field to score. Evan added a second try before the break before a response from Skerries left 12-10 at half time.
Wilson's second half was much better. Swifter handling and cleaner rucks made space for our outside back to score some five tries. Denians (2), Ola and Emmanuel added further tries. All conversions on the day coming from a composed Sam. Skerries sis have the final say with a well taken try again from their prop.
Best performers in the pack were Jeffrey, Mark and Ola. In the backs Ben was a constant threat at 10 while Denians and Al-Amin did the business out wide. Next up is the semi final against Kilkenny College next Monday in Donnybrook. Well done boys.
Wednesday 24th January
Hockey: The Junior Boys team game is cancelled.. The Junior Girls team played a hard fought 0-0 draw this afternoon against Loreto, Bray. The girls got off to a slow start and Loreto dominated the first half. The second half saw a big improvement and the Wilson's girls fought hard. They were unlucky not to score but the Loreto goalkeeper was fantastic. Player of the match for Wilson's was Ayo who came on midway through the first half and had a huge impact on the game. Well done to the girls who remain in the upper half of the Leinster League with a chance of making the quarter finals still to play for. The Minor A girls team match angainst Jesus and Mary, Goatstown in UCD has been postponed again.
Rugby. The Senior Boys team continued their food run in the Foster Cup with a hard fought 20 points to 10 away win against Blackrock. The game was a tight affair throughout the first half ending 10 points each. Jack (who has been in great form since getting into the team) scored his first senior try for Wilson's. Robbie added a second try shortly after.
The second half was very tight as well. It wasn't until the last five minutes that Wilson's got the defining scores. Ryan got a try, conversion and penalty to give Wilson's breathing space. The Seniors have a break for mock exams next week week followed by two home games to finish out the round robin section of the Cup. Well done to Fred and the squad.
