Sports & Extra Curricular Events 15th - 21st January 2018

Monday 15th  January.

Hockey. The Senior A Girls team had an away fixture against St. Killian's. They had a very good win in wet conditions which made the game difficult for both teams. The first half was very promising with Wilson's having most of the possession. One on one opportunities for Emily G, Jane and Emily E against the goal keeper were not converted unfortunately, resulting in a scoreless first half.

The second half was more challenging with St. Killian's stepping up a few gears and really pressurising the Wilson's defence. Outstanding defending from our players created a quick break, in the mid-field Avril passed the ball straight to our centre forward Jane who scored with ease.

The last 15 minutes of the game saw constant attacking from St. Killian's. They had three long corners in quick succession but once again our defence held strong. With seconds left on the clock St. Killian's were awarded a short corner. Excellent communication and determination from our Goal keeper and backline stopped any attempt on goal and the final whistle was blown. Another good win from this hard working team.

Rugby: The U14 Boys played Mullingar RFC this evening. They had a good outing gaining valuable match experience losing 5 tries to 2.

The Junior Boys Team had their first outing in the Cup campaign taking on Gormanstown College in a wet and windy Barnhall RFC. Training had been disrupted last week with the weather so preparation for this game was far from perfect. It was Wilson's who made the better start. After winning a line out on the Gormanstown 22 they mailed the whole way to the try line where Sam dotted down to leave the score 5-0

Gormanstown were the much better team for the remainder of the half and were benefitting from a strong wind. Their strong running 10 and 12 scored tries to leave the half time score 14-5.

The second half saw Wilson's much better in defence. Joe and Ola scored tries either side of a penalty from Sam. Gormanstown came back into the game and had all the ball for the last 10 minutes. Knowing only a try would do they battered the Wilsons line. To our boys credit they never folded and kept out line intact. The final score was an 18-14 win for Wilson's.

Jenson, Jeffrey and Harry were the pick of the forwards, while Sam, Rodrigo and Joe were fantastic in the backs. Rodrigo was Man of the Match as he constantly threatened the Gormanstown back line. Next up is Skerries in Donnybrook next Monday. Times to be confirmed.

Tuesday 16th January

Hockey: The Minor A girls team were to have a Leinster match against Jesus & Mary College,  Goatstown but the bad weather meant the game was postponed.

Wednesday 17th January.

Hockey: The Senior B and the Minor A girls teams were to travel to play Drogheda Grammar School in the Meath & District League But again the bad weather was the only winner.

Rugby. The Senior Boys responded to their cup defeat last week in style, comfortably beating a weak  CUS team in Monkstown RFC. To be fair the opposition first team are playing against Newpark on Thursday so they would have been fielding largely a second team today.

CUS went 5-0 up inside the first thirty seconds. An up and under wasn't dealt with correctly and the CUS no. 15 collected the ball and finished nearly under the posts. The remainder of the first half was largely Wilson's who physically had the upper hand. William, Richard, Conor and Robbie scored tries with Ryan adding three out of four conversions.

The second half was largely one way traffic with tries coming from Richard (3), David, Owen, Evan and Alex. CUS to their credit responded with a well taken try from their scrum half. The pick of the forwards were Alex, David and Jack while Richard, Robbie and Owen all did well in the backs.
