Sports & Extra Curricular Events 20th - 26th November 2017

Tuesday 21st November.

Basketball. The Senior Boys team will be playing today.

Wednesday 22nd November.

Rugby. The Senior Girls Team match against Kilkenny College was rained off. The Senior and 1st and 2nd Year Boys Squad both played The Grammar School, Sligo in Mullingar RFC. The Junior Boys team are playing St. Andrew's College in their semi-final. Our Junior Boys Rugby Team made history today making it to the Leinster Div 1B final for the first time in the schools’ history. The game was a replay and originally fixed for Multyfarnham. After last night torrential rain it was decided the game would be moved to Mullingar RFC and their 4G pitch.

Wilson's were slow out of the blocks and found themselves 5-0 down after 5 minutes. WHS were in pole position in the St Andrew's 22 and turned the ball over. 2 missed tackles resulted in the St. Andrew's winger going the length of the pitch to score in the corner. Wilson's regrouped well and our own flying winger Denians rounded the St. Andrew's cover to score close to the posts after some good handling from Ben and Sam. A second try was soon added by Walter who had a super game in the loose - making ground at every opportunity. During the final play of the first half Wilson’s feel asleep and conceded a soft try. This left the half time score 14-10.

The second half started frantically with St Andrew's being held up short of the line on 3 occasions in the opening 15 mins. WHS weathered the storm and began to build some phases, Jeffery, Carlos and Oisin making constant yards. Poor handling at times meant neither team could add to their half time tally and the final score finished 14-10.

It's hard to pick stand out performers on a day where everyone played their part in a memorable win. Jeffery and Walter made constant ground in the forwards while Mark and Harry set the tone on the flanks with 20+ tackles each. Micheal and Al-Amin put a lot of pressure on St Andrews backs in defence.

Next up is the Final v Scoil Clonglais who won the league last year, most likely in 2 weeks time in Donnybrook. Well done lads.
