Tuesday 14th January
Rugby. Our Junior Boys Rugby team made history by beating The King’s Hospital School for the first time in 48 years in a up ompetition.
The game was played on the 4G in Mullingar Rugbylub on what was a old and breezy afternoon.
WHS played with a wind on their back in the first half and had the best of the early exchanges. Sam got the first score after some excellentarries from Matthew B, Matthew and Nathan. Jack got WHS’ second try of the half showing good leg drive to power over from five yards. 10-0 to WHS at Half Time.
Wilson’s eased the pressure in the second half when Jack gathered the ball at the back of the scrum, handed off the opposing 9 andantered in from fifty meters. Ross and Sam added further tries to lose the game out. We failed with the five onversions but it must be noted onditions were terrible for kicking and all but one of the tries were scored in the orners.
This was an excellent display from the entire twenty players who took to the field. The foundation was laid by an excellent defensive line. In the pack Eddie, Matthew and Nathan made some excellentontributions while in the backs David was excellent defensively and Stephen, Tom and Manuel did well with the ball in hand. Jack was Player of the Match with an outstanding display at 9. He scored two tries and was to the fore in defence and attack. The final score was 20 – 0.
The Juniors await the winners of Newpark andBS Wexford in the quarter final next Monday in Donnybrook. Kick off 2.30. Well done boys.
Hockey. Our Minor A girls were out on Tuesday at home against Alexandra College. The defence were really tested in this game as Alexandra tried tirelessly to score. At half time it was 0-0. Wilson’s held their own. Wilson’s made some great breaks but unlucky to get a score.
Alexandra continued to test the defence line and as the girls remained strong it was in the last ten minutes Alexandra scored and shortly after got another two soft goals. It was unfortunate for the girls but they done so well for so long in the game. The score line did not reflect the skill and determination of the Wilson’s girls.
Wednesday 15th January.
Rugby. Our Senior Boys Rugby team suffered defeat in the first round of the Forester Cup today. The team went down 13 points to 7 to a well-organized St Mary’s team in Kennelworth Square.
A superb solo try for Denians was a good as it got for WHS in the first half. Playing into a strong wind they were probably lucky to be only six points down at half time. 13-7.
Incredibly there were no scores in the second half. Conditions were tough for rugby with a stiff breeze blowing straight across the pitch.
Up front Reuben and David carried well while Mark and Jack got through a mountain of work. On what was a tough day for the backs Thomas carried well while Denians made good ground off limited ball.
Next week the Seniors travel to Terenure for their second game in this competition in what is now a must win game.
Hockey. Wilson’s girls were confident starting the game and played very well as a team. Sion Hill were eager to score a goal in the first half but super defence from Brianna, Leila and Faith kept the goal line clear. Robyn, ElleAnna and Alice performed great as worked together with super support every play from Aoibhin. Aoibhin made great runs throughout the game. Adaobi, Rose and Naoise had great attacks on goals and left Sion Hill nervous. In the second half ElleAnna got a fantastic goal. Wilson’s finished 1-0 at full time.
Player of the match: ElleAnna

Wilsons Hospital School hosted the event and would like to thank all the schools who travelled from Moate, Killucan, Kilbeggan & Castlepollard to make the day so enjoyable for all involved. We wish all those who qualified for the Leinster finals the very best of luck!
Hockey. The Senior B and the Minor A and Minor B teams had home matches today against Mercy, Navan.
The Minor B Girls hockey team played against Mercy, Navan in an amazing display of hockey at home today. The girls started strong and didn't let up throughout the entire match. Through bitter, driving rain, the girls repeatedly drove the ball past the Mercy defence and found the back of the net no less than three times.
Wilson's maintained a whopping percentage of possession, leaving the back line as spectators to their own game. Despite several frees against us for feet offences, Wilson's successfully secured multiple short corners from which they scored.
It was an outstanding performance by all 17 players, with Tori, Emma and Alex vital cogs in the success machine of today. Kate put the team's first ever score on the scoreboard, closely followed by Lola and another by Tori in the second half.
The First Years have really gelled as a team over the last few months and their joy in the game is infectious - this team will go onwards and upwards. Congratulations on a great game and great teamwork, girls!
Wilson’s Minor A girls started very strongly against Mercy, Navan on a very cold wet afternoon. They set the pace from the beginning and had super team plays on the pitch. It was a very fast game, Jane passed to Serena and Serena to Áine who got a goal in the first five minutes.
Oriel, Áine and Leah make great attacks on goals. Leah made some great runs into the forwards with the ball and made two great passes to Áine who finished with a hat trick. Chinazo, her first time in goals made some super saves under the great defence line of Dodo, Anna and Lauren.
Midfields Ella, Sarah and Alva made great runs throughout the game supporting both defence and forwards. Niamh, Lauren and Dodo kept the score line 3-0 when Loreto Navan made some last minute attempts so score.
Players of the match: Áine and Chinazo
