Wednesday 8th January.
Badminton. The Girls and Boys u19 teams took part in the Westmeath competition today. The Girls' team has qualified to play in the Leinster competition soon.
Hockey. The Senior B girls started well against Loreto and applied early pressure. However this pressure did not result in a goal. Once Loreto settled they managed to score two quick goals which dampened the Wilson's spirit. The score line could have been catastrophic if it were not for the heroics of Destiny in goal pulling out some superb saves to keep us in the game. Even though the result didn't favour our girls, they performed extremely well and never gave up until the final whistle.
The Minor A girls were at home to Loreto Mullingar in the Meath League and won 1-0.
Wilson’s started the game very strong and set the pace from the beginning. Loreto had to respond fast and made some attempts on goal but Jane, Lauren and Anna cleared all with great teamwork and skill.
Wilson’s got two short corners in a row and both were on target but unlucky not to finish with a goal. Sarah took a free outside the ‘D’ and made a back pass to Leah who came running from centre field made a pass to goals and Áine finished with a great goal in the first fifteen minutes. Midfields Sarah, Alva and Ella worked relentlessly for the entire game and made great passes into the forwards Oriel, Laura and Áine.
This was one of the best team performances by all the girls this season and a great start to the new year.
The Minor B girls played out of their skins to record their first draw of the season. Whilst the score line was 0:0, the match certainly wasn't even with our girls playing an excellent brand of hockey. They could have taken a win against Loreto but unfortunately were only inches from scoring not one but three goals.
Thursday 9th January.
Soccer. Wilson's Senior Girls team unfortunately suffered a defeat today against Killina Presentation School from Offaly. The girls played their hearts out and it is a credit to them to get as far as the Leinster Snr Cup final. They were up against a well established, experienced and tough team who previously have won many titles including an All Ireland. Coach, Ms Mulvanney would like to commend all players on their stamina and play till the bitter end. The girls are still competing in the League so onwards and upwards for the girls from here.
Joint players of the match Ellen and Leah.
Rugby Report for the Week.
The Senior Boys team got their 2020 calendar year off to a great start with a win against a strong Blackrock team on Wednesday afternoon. One try from Ola and three from outhalf Ben meant we ran out winners 20-17. Mark, Jeffery and David were magnificent in the pack while Ben, Evan and Thomas were excellent in the backs. Scott was man of the match with an-all action display in the second row.
Our Junior 1's continued their Cup preparations with a narrow loss to the Midlands under 16's. The final Score was 24-34. Wilson's scores came from Manuel (2), Jack and Nathan. This was an excellent run out and will hopefully stand the team in good stead when they play The King’s Hospital School next Tuesday in the Cup. Good luck to the team and coaches, Fred, Francis and Clare.
The Junior 2's travelled to De La Salle, Churchtown on Wednesday afternoon for a friendly game. The result went against them with Joshua getting Wilson's only try on the day. Jamie, Matt and James were the pick of the forwards while Elliott, William and Michael stood strong on what was a tough day for the backs.
