Monday 16th December

Soccer. The girls won a semi final today - well done! More details to follow.

Rugby.  Our Junior and Senior Girls Rugby teams hosted St Mary's Edenderry for two friendly games.  Edenderry proved too strong in both games but the girls got plenty of game time which is fantastic for their development.

Well done to Áine and Dodo who got the tries for the juniors. Serena was player of the match for her work ethic throughout the game.
The seniors played a 7 a side format with plenty of girls scoring tries. Nicole was named player of the match for her hard work in attack and defence.
The Rugby Department would like to wish Ms Butler all the best as she heads off on maternity leave. We look forward to seeing you at games after Christmas and thank you for all your hard work with the girls to date this year.

The First Year Boys Rugby team played their final game of the calendar year when they travelled to Edenderry RFC to play their counterparts from St Mary's secondary school.
The result didn't go their way but the boys gave a great account of themselves. Darren added to his impressive try scoring tally adding two scores. George added another while David and William added a conversion each.
There were great performances in the pack from Yaw, Harry and Callum while Jack, John and David were very busy in the backs. Congratulations to Cian who captained the side in only his second game of rugby.
This group of boys have worked very hard all term and have played 14 games to day winning 10. Special thanks to Mr Dunne who has worked equally hard to develop and challenge the players.
Pictured below are the boys wearing their new First Year Rugby tops sponsored to them by Mr Dunne. He surprised the boys with their tops at their Christmas party on Wednesday afternoon. Well done boys! A great start to your Wilson's Rugby careers.

Rugby.  Our Junior Boys Rugby team hosted The High School, Rathgar in the League Semi Final. This was only our second time to ever contest a semi final in this competition having beaten St Andrew's in 2016.

A heavy fog covered the Rugby pitch in Wilson's making visability difficult. The game started at a ferocious pace. High School had the best of the territory and possession but a stiff Wilson's defence held them out. Ross, Eddie and Nathan got through a mountain of work up front to keep the WHS try line intact.
Mid way through the half Tom kicked Wilson's into some decent territory. A good line out win from Daniel (who disrupted High School ball all afternoon) set a great platform. After multiple phases hooker Matthew eventually squeezed over. Tom added a difficult conversion and that was the only score of the half 7-0.
The second half started in similar fashion to the first. High School made some great inroads but were often let down by the final pass. Wilson's soaked up the pressure with some resolute defending. Eventually Wilson's got some decent field position. Some pressure from Jack on a High School scrum five metres from their own line resulted in the Wilson's 9 dispossessing the opposition and dotting down himself.
High School got themselves back into the game with a well taken try after sustained pressure. 5-12 with 15 minutes remaining. The next score crucially was scored by Wilson's. Some excellent handling by the backs allowed Max to score. Tom added the extras to make it 19-5. From the resulting restart Max ran the length of the field for what was the final score of the game 24-5.
The foundation for this outstanding performance was laid by the pack. All eight worked their socks off creating clean ball for Tom and Jack. In the backs Max, David and Jude constantly made ground when they got the ball in hand. Man of the Match goes to Sam. Particularly in the first half, he was to the fore with his carries and work on the ground. Honourable mentions to Jack, Max and Matthew B.
Naas CBS await this group in the League final which is likely to be played in March when cup competitions have concluded. Well done boys. A great result and effort. Your school are is proud of your efforts.
