Sports & Extra Curricular Events 18th - 24th November

Wednesday 20th November.

Hockey. The Senior A, Junior and Minor A girls teams were in action today.

The Senior A girls unfortunately lost their match 3-2 to Our Ladies Grove. The girls played well throughout the entire match. Leah, in the mids was always looking for the ball. Davina scored an excellent goal, quickly equalising the score in the first quarter of the game. Soon after, Davina scored another goal, bringing the score to 2-1. The girls worked really hard to stop the other team from gaining possession of the ball. Eunice had some excellent hits up to the forwards. Ayo, in left forward, was always ready to run for the ball. The second half was nearly uneventful as the girls became stronger. Unfortuneately, the other team scored two goals in the last ten minutes of the game. Well played Senior A girls!

Unfortunately, the Junior girls lost a goal in the first few minutes of the game to a very strong opposing side from The King’s Hospital School. They were taken by surprise when the other team set the pace but following this, their defence strengthened and they were tougher to break through. KH scored a second goal in minutes before half time.

Half way through the second half, the girls fought and fought but the strong KH side still broke through to score their third goal. Aoibhin was great in sweeper running the whole time and never giving up with some great clears. Adaobi has a great game in back and mid. Brianna did a super job in centre back. Chidera did an amazing job in goals saving loads of shots at the goals by KH. Chidera is the player of the match for today but the whole team played very well as a unit. The final score was 3-0 to KH.

The Minor A girls unfortunately gave away two goals one after the other in the first half against The King's Hospital School. Straight after the goals however, they were back up in the opposing teams half. The score was 2-0 in the end but the score does not represent the way the girls played at all. They all played very well and should be very proud of themselves Leah, Alva, Lauren and Charlotte all played very well throughout the match. The player of the match was Jane. Well done to both teams.

Thursday 21st November.

Wilson’s Junior Debaters scored a major win at the last league round of the UCD Junior Schools Debates on Thursday 21 November. Sarah and Andrea (Form 3) placed 1st in their round of 8 schools, successfully arguing that “This House Believes that the Irish Education System is failing its students.” Teams Caoimhe and Aimee (Form 3), Kitty and Roisín (Form 3) and Charlotte and Oisín (Form 2) also represented the school well, with the other motion on the night being “This House Believes that doctors rather than parents, should make all medical decisions for children until they reach the age of consent.”

The shortlist of the Top 32 individual speakers and the Top 32 teams to go forward to the knockout phase of the competition will be released by UCD Junior Schools before Christmas. There is lots of optimism that many or all of our debaters will “make the list”!
