Hockey. Dunamase secondary school made the journey down to Wilson’s to play both our Minor A and Minor B girls year hockey teams. The Minor B match got off to a rocky start with Dunamase scoring 2 goals but the Wilson’s girls still fought on with great skill showed by Alex and Odhran. Sophie and Emma also worked well together in mid-field both attacking and defending. As the game progressed, the Wilson’s girls demonstrated fantastic team work and determination shown by all the girls. The match concluded with a 2-0 score to Dunamase.

The Minor A hockey match got off to a very good start with the Wilson’s girls working well together to get the ball up the pitch into Dunamase territory. There were great defense skills shown by Dodo in the back line as-well as Juliet and Ella. In the second half of the match, Dunamase scored a quick goal but this did not phase the team who still powered on with great energy and enthusiasm shown by all players. Charlotte also made some brilliant saves in the goalie position! The game ended with a 1-0 score to Dunamase.

Basketball. The Senior Girls and The Senior Boys teams were both in action today.

Wednesday 23rd October.

Orienteering.  The first event of the Leinster Post Primary Schools Orienteering League 2019/20 kicked off today in St Anne's Park, Raheny and Wilson's had 31 enthusiastic competitors from all Form Groups. The excitement of the event was added to by the presence of World Ranked IOF Eventor  Anton Hallor from Sweden who has agreed to visit us in Wilson's in November.

The weather conditions were perfect and already as identified by the IOA, the strong contenders were showing their form. Among these was Wilson's very own Dominic who is the reigning Leinster Champion for 5th-6th Year Boys, finishing in 3rd place. Dominic was closely followed by Craig who finished in 4th and who won the Transition Year Boys title last year. Reuben, Gift, Nicholas and Ben also placed 5th; 6th; 7th & 8th respectively in this category. In the 5th-6th Girls Clemence finished in an impressive 4th.

Our First Year Girls enjoyed their first outing with Hayley and Emily winning the Beginners. The First Year Boys performed really well with Patrick, Dineth, Gordon and Jack finishing in 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th. The 2nd-3rd Year Boys Category was well contested by the Wilson's team. Final mention goes to our TY Boys with Noah attaining 2nd and Wasswa 5th.

Congratulations to all our competitors who embraced the challenge with great gusto. We are already looking forward to the next event which we will tackle with the knowledge and experience of today's event.

Hockey. The Senior B girls team played Loreto, Beaufort today in the second game of the season. They put up a spirited fight but were well beaten on the day.
Special mention to Destiny our goalkeeper who had an outstanding game. Also to Rachel and Kelechi who had excellent performances in defence.

The Junior Girls also in played in Loreto, Beaufort. A strong start was made by both teams. Jane and Dodo worked extremely hard working the ball out to midfields Ella , Charlotte and Serena. Lauren marked her player very well and tirelessly kept the ball away from Laura playing fantastically for the first time in goals today. Laura made some brilliant saves and showed great team spirit.

Loreto Beaufort got a goal in the first ten minutes but Wilson’s soon equalised with a goal which was well worked from midfields and into the forwards so fast that Beaufort's defence couldn’t respond. Ella moved back into defence and connected well with Jane and Dodo to get the ball out of our defence line. Half time and the girls were 1-1 after a very fast first half .

The second half started strongly with the midfields working very hard. Chinazo, Charlotte and Serena kept working to get the ball out to the forwards. Sarah made great runs along the wing and connected well with Chinazo. Wilson's defence could not be faulted today and worked tremendously. An unfortunate ball slipped into goals which left us down 2-1. The girls didn’t drop their heads or their hard work until the final whistle and made fantastic breaks to try and score an equaliser. Player of the match was Jane.

Rugby. Longford under 13s travelled to Wilson's to play an evening game under lights. It was an enthralling encounter and both teams gave everything for the full duration. Straight from the kick off, George caught the Longford drop off. He evaded several players and ran from the half way line to dot down for the teams first score. David duly converted.

Longford restarted the game with a greater hunger and bounced back with a score of their own. The conversion was missed leaving the score 7-5. The game became very gritty and both teams contested the rucks with great ferocity. Late in the first half, John (Team Captain) made a brilliant intercept on the halfway line, and after a couple of phases Ignacio caught the ball on the 10 metre line, and made a darting run to the corner evading several defenders in the process. Longford rallied and scored two more tries late on the leave the score 19-12 at half time.

In the second half the game started to swing in Wilson's favour. Callum scored immediately after the restart with a blistering run down the middle of the pitch. This was closely followed by some slick handling from Jack, Joshua and Killian to put Rowland in for a try. This left a nice cushion between the sides. Longford returned with a score of their own after some pressure applied in the home sides 22. A  brilliant solo effort from Yaw gave Wilson's their fifth try of the game, which reestablished extra comfort on the scoreboard. The game finished with arguably the score of the match. Bligh made a great turn over which led to some great passing from Harry, to put Mispar into space. He then throw the ball to Elliott, who showed great evasion skills to distribute the ball to William to dot down for the games final act. The game finished with a scoreline of 41-24.

All players had a great time and this was another very enjoyable experience for both sides. This continues Wilson's unbeaten run and the side have made huge strides in the last few weeks.

Debating. The Wilson’s Senior Debating Team consisting of Esther, Eoin, Noah and Olivier provided a very entertaining debate against St. Joseph’s Secondary School Rochfortbridge. With Wilson’s proposing the motion “Nuclear power is essential for a clean energy future,” many strong arguments were put forward on both sides. Parents, staff and students in the audience were impressed with the quality and passion on both sides of the debate, with the motion eventually being defeated.

The Senior Debating Team look forward to their next engagement as the oppose the motion “The EU needs an army” on Monday 18 November in Coláiste Naomh Cormac, Kilcormac, Co. Offaly.
