Tuesday 24th September.
Rugby. The Girls Rugby teams took part in their first blitz of the year on Tuesday in MU Barnhall. The Juniors played 7 mini games against different Leinster schools. The stand out players were Maria, Isobel, Chizara, Alex and Dodo who showed excellent skill in both attack and defence. Chizara was particularly good in defence making numerous try saving tackles.
The Seniors played 5 mini games. Stand out senior players were Ellen, Jenna and Emma who made some fine tackles but also scored a few tries for their team.
For most of the juniors and 4 of the senior girls this was their very first rugby game and the improvement in skills over a short period of time was really impressive. A huge well done to all the rugby girls. Onwards and Upwards from here!!!
Wednesday 25th September
Athletics. Athletes from Wilson's headed to Belvedere for the Westmeath Schools cross country championships.
They all performed to the best of their abilities. In the 1st year girls we had Tori, Lucy and Stella. 1st year boys had Gordon representing the school. In the 2nd year race were Anna and Sarah who both finished in the top 10.
2nd year boys were Daniel and Micah both showing great pace to finish strongly. Next up was Alice who finished 3rd in the 3rd year girls race. It was an excellent performance from Alice who looked comfortable throughout the race. The 3rd and 4th year boys was a packed race but Freddie and Finn both finished in the top 20 and the rest of the boys packed well including Noah, Nathan J, Ronan, Malcom, Jack, Nathan P, Aaron, Jamie, Jules and Wasswa.
Finally it was Craig and Emmanuel in the 5th year boys. Craig worked hard throughout the 3 laps and finished 9th which was a fabulous result. Well done to all our athletes and Esther and Sadbh our sports monitors today. Ms Beirne was delighted to have such a great team with her today.
Rugby. The Senior Boys hosted St Michael's College. The visitors ran out winners 36-5 in what was a mostly competitive game. Ben got our only score with a well taken try early in the second half. Next week the boys travel to Temple Carraig in the second round of the league. Thank you to Mark Wiseman for the photos.
A mixture of 2nd and 3rd year boys travelled to Castleknock College and ran out comfortable winners 67-30. Early Scores from Sam, Matthew B (2) Ross and Matthew C (2) put WHS in control. Additional scores late in the game came from Jude, Edward, Eddie and Joel. Stephen, Conn and Tom added conversions. Next week the JCT kick off their competitive campaign at home to Newpark Comprehensive.
The game of the day was played by a mixture of first and second year boys. They hosted St Michael's and played a highly entertaining game which ended 7 tries to 6 in favour of Wilson's. Our scores came from Alpha (2), Yaw (2), Callum (2) and Brian. This was a fantastic performance given it was much of this groups first time to play a 15 aside game of rugby. The forwards worked very hard with David, Daniel and Samuel setting a great platform for the back-line. In the backs Jack, Ignacio and John were a constant threat to St Michael's.to Joshua and Jake on their first games of rugby for the school, hopefully the first of many. Next week the first years travel to Mt Temple.
Friday 27th September.
Basketball: The Senior Boys' played a league match today which they won 41-22. Shalom and Ola had great games.
