Sport & Extra Curricular Events 2nd - 8th September 2019

The Sports & Extra Curricular Time table for Term 1 has been circulated to parents/guardians and is on this website under Extra Curricular.

Depending on student participation, events may not run and other events may be added as the term progresses. Students should read the relevant notice boards in school for the details of times and locations of events.

Wednesday 4th September.

Rubgy: The first competitive fixtures took place today with the First Year Boys team and the Junior Boys team playing De La Salle Churchtown at home and the Senior Boys playing St Paul's away.

The Seniors travelled to St Paul’s and lost out 22-19 in a very competitive game. Our try scorers were Ben, Ola and Denians with Ben slotting 2 conversions. 6 players made their debut at senior level. Thomas, Jack and Joe impressed in the backs while Walter, Jeffery and Mark excelled in the forwards.

The Second Years lost out at home to De La Salle Juniors 26-15. Wilson’s led 15-0 at half time with Man of the Match Sam getting the 3 tries. The wind had a big part to play in the game with WHS playing into a strong wind in the second half. DLS’s big pack cracked the Wilson’s line 4 times in the second half. Sam, Joel and Ciaran stood up well to what was a physically bigger pack while Jack, Micheal and Elliott performed well in the backs.

The First Years also hosted De La Salle and drew 9 tries each. All 15 first years who took to the field played admirably and we look forward to seeing how they get on against neighbours St Finian’s next Wednesday in WHS. Keep up the good work boys!

Thursday 5th September.

Rugby: Our Junior Boys Rugby team opened their campaign with an early season friendly against Mullingar under 16s.

Mullingar’s starting XV included six Wilson’s players with Ross, Edward, Max, Eoghan, Matthew and Daniel lining out in red.

The first half was a rather one-sided affair with Mullingar’s large pack and strong running backs doing plenty of damage to what was a scattered Wilson’s defence.

Ross and Max played for WHS in the second half in what was a much more even affair. Wilson’s won the second half 6 try’s to 3 with Max (3), Ross (2) and Cian (his first try for the school) getting the scores.

Matthew, Joel and Nathan were the pick of Wilson’s forwards who started in Blue. Jack, Joel and Stephen did very well in tough conditions for the backs. The juniors travel to Gormanstown next Wednesday.
