Have a happy and safe summer break everyone.

Wilson’s Hospital School opened its doors for the first time on 17th April 1761. In 2011 the school celebrated operating continuously for 250 years on the same site and in the same buildings. This is a unique aspect of our school. The unbroken link with former generations of pupils gives the school a special sense of character.

To mark this long unbroken history a number of events were held. The school featured in a section of RTE 1's "Nationwide" programme on Monday 12th December 2011.

The last public event was the launch of a book documenting the History of Wilson’s Hospital School from 1761 to 2011 which was held at the School on Sunday, 20th November 2011.  The main features of the book include:

• A comprehensive record of the life of the School over its long history
• A chronological recounting of administrative, academic and sporting aspects of the School
This significant publication will have a hardback bound cover and will include:
• 480 pages
• Circa 300 photographs, maps and documents in black and white and in colour, bringing the story to life.

The History is priced at the most reasonable price possible of €20. The book can be ordered for collection or posting, by returning a copy of an order form available by ringing the school.   A copy of the book will be retained for you on receipt of a completed order form.

Wilson’s Hospital School held a celebratory evening to coincide with the launch on Sunday 20th November. This was the final public event of our 250th Anniversary Year and was another memorable occasion. A full account of the event can be read in the News section of this website with photos in the Our Photo Gallery Section.

The previous event was the 250th Anniversary Golf Classic held at Moate Golf, Club on Friday 24th June 2011. Details of this event can be found in the News in the Archive section of this website with photos in the Gallery section.

The main focus of the 250th Celebrations occured in April. Thursday 7th April saw Founder's Day being marked with cross-country races and other sports events within the school. Friday 8th April saw a Family Day around the school from 11.30 a.m.to approx. 4.00p.m. (See details below). The Past Pupils Association hosted a Gala Diner and Ball in the Mullingar Park Hotel on Saturday 10th April.

This was followed on Sunday 10th with a Chapel Service and guided tours of the school for Past Pupils. For further accounts of these events please see the News in the Archive section of this website and photos in Our Photo Gallery.

The school was delighted to welcome President Mary McAleese when she came to visit on Friday 20th May 2011. She was very interested in the school's long history. There is an account of her visit in the News in the Archive section of this site and some photos in Our Photos Gallery.

The School Chaplain and members of the School Choir led the morning worship programme broadcast on RTE 1 television on May 29th. RTE visited the school and there was significant footage of the school outlining it's 250 year history at the start of the Service of The Word.
